Question: I want to learn the guitar. What is the best type of guitar to get & what do I look for thats good 4 beginners?

I found this guitar online and I like how it looks but it is accoustic/electric and I don't really don't know what to look for in a first guitar. Below is the discription of the guitar I like. Any suggestions or best way to go about buying a guitar for a beginner would be greatly appreciated!

Answer: Buying online is risky, especially for a beginner, because there's no way to judge the "action" of a guitar without holding it. Action refers to the distance between the strings and the frets and it's much easier (less painful) to learn chords when the strings are closer to the frets. Lots of lower-end guitars have terribly high action, which wrongly leads people to think they're not capable of learning guitar. However, if the action is too low, the strings can buzz against the metal frets. That's why it's good to test drive a guitar before buying it.

If you go to any store that sells guitars -- even stores like Target and Wal-Mart -- you'll be able to check how comfortable each guitar is before deciding. A guitar doesn't have to be expensive to be a great player. If possible, take along a friend who plays and get his/her opinion. Good luck!
