Question: is a 13 amp extension cord enough for a computer?

I was wondering if you think it is safe to plug in my desktop computer tower, monitor, and printer into a power strip (and surge protector) and then plug that power strip into a 13 amp heavy duty extension cord. The extension cord was the heaviest duty I could buy.

Answer: Almost certainly yes, but we can't say for sure since we don't know what type of computer you have. 13 amps at 120 volts is about 1500 watts. I don't know of any computer other than perhaps a high end server that would use that much power. Most computers use between 100-300 watts.

Just remember that if your power supply says 500 watts, that doesn't mean your computer is actually drawing 500 watts. In fact, it means that it's almost certainly not drawing anywhere near that much. Most power supplies will never draw more than 1/2 of the wattage they're rated for.

Also, extension cords are typically rated by wire gauge. The wire in your house is most likely 14 gauge, so a 14 gauge extension cord ought to be enough for you. The higher the wire gauge, the more amperage the cord can handle. Also keep in mind that a 14 gauge cord that's 10 feet long can handle more amperage than a 14 gauge cord that's 50 feet long. As the cord length goes up, the wire gauge must also go up to maintain the same current capacity, otherwise you can run into voltage drop.

Question: What Guitar Effect pedal should I: The Zoom G1X or the Behringer X V-Amp? ?

I like the Behringer, because all the amp options, but I also like the many spots on the zoom. If you have one or the other, please tell me what is good about them. Thanks a lot. Here are the links to the pages: Behringer: http://www.zzounds.com/item--BEHXVAMP Zoom: After http://www.zzounds.com/item--ZOMG1X again, thank you.

Answer: Honestly I can not say how one of them. Both brands are All their stuff sounds like a cheap imitation or striaght to plastic. At least the zoom feature one or two things, you could use. So that's what I get. But ultimately on effects from TC Helicon, boss, or look like Line 6.
